Temple Square

I think every Utah LDS family has a tradition of going to Temple Square to see the lights. This year we chose a good night. It wasn't very busy considering. And miracle of miracles it wasn't the coldest night of the year. Every other year it seems that we decide to go and it turns out to be the coldest night of the year and we freeze!

St. Nicholas

Every year on the first weekend in December St. Nicholas comes and visits our house if we've been good. I don't know how good we were, but he came anyway.

The Davis County Fair

We started this tradition when I worked at Michael's. My co-worker Nicole would take a week off for the Davis County Fair, because she had pigs and goats and her kids did 4-H. So we started going to support and see her. The kids loved it and now even though I don't work at Michael's (yeah) we still go to the fair to see her and the animals. The kids were allowed to milk a goat. Pretty interesting....it's something I've never done. So here's Carter milking a goat.

Now Madison's turn This year was very exciting and packed they had an animal show with tigers and snakes and such. Well you could pay to go in and be with the tigers. So as a family we went in and sat with a 3 week old tiger cub. In the cage with us was a baby kangaroo....isn't she cute?! Here's Kinney petting the tiger....still not too sure about these animals Carter wasn't too fond of being in the tigers cage or petting her for that matter. This was about as close as he would get. Kinney on her own petting the tiger...I think she's getting the hang of it. Oh wait, now we're wanting to pick up the "baby" How about a kiss. (The trainer said it was okay) Bye baby tiger! It was worth it, how many kids are able to say that they pet a baby tiger? And she was so small, it was really cool!

And of course at the end of the fair we have to get a picture in their sign. That we had a wild time at the Davis County Fair Kinney's turn! I would encourage you to go. It's free other than the parking...and whatever else you'd like to buy or eat...I'm a sucker for funnel cakes...especially at the fair!

Oakley Rodeo

It's that time of year again that we go to parades, watch fireworks and spend time with family celebrating our nations Independence. However the traditions I hope you all have a wonderful Independence Day! Our tradition for the weekend of the 4th is to attend the Oakley Rodeo! Here's some pictures from our fun!

This is the stool we brought to help "B" up into our "monster" truck. Our new to us Expedition has about a 6 inch lift to it so it makes it hard even for me to get in let alone my cute almost 90 year old Grandma to get in.

First the Bare Back Riding! Then comes the Calf Ropin' Then the Saddle Bronc Ridin' Next out of the shoots is the Steer Wrestlin' And we can't forget the ladies with the Barrel Racin' Then our families absolute favorite...BULL RIDIN'! the stare down....

It's so intense and we absolutely love it! Afterwards there's fireworks and a dance but we have little ones and "B" usually has someone drive her home while the rest of us drive on up the canyon to the cabin. And this weekend there's lots to do...we're adding on to the kitchen so it won't be a one person kitchen anymore! Until the next post...

Olsen Family Reunion

Every year on the second Saturday of June we have the Olsen Family Reunion. This consists of my Grandma's family. My mom and subsequently me has been in charge of "entertainment" for this shin-dig. We've done Olsen Family Jeopardy, Olsen Family Squares, and this year we decided to do "Are you Smarter than the Olsen Family" and "Minute to Win It" It was a blast. Some of my cousins drove from Colorado Springs to be here. The other event in this picture is you had to take the blue cup from the top and cycle it through back to the top alternating hands. Over all I think it was a successful reunion, with a lot of fun!
